PARTITION TAG NOMENCLATURE

Position Description Codes / Meanings
1ST POSITION Core Material W = Wood
E = Engineered Lumber
M = Metal
C = Concrete
B = Masonry Block
2ND POSITION Size of Core Wood: Nominal stud sizes (e.g. 4 = 3½”)
Engineered Lumber: (e.g. 4 = 3½”)
Metal Stud: e.g. 358 = 3⅝”
Concrete: Actual wall thickness (e.g. 8 = 8”)
Masonry: Nominal brick modules (e.g. 8 = 7⅝”)
3RD POSITION Layer Material See “Layer Material Codes” table below
4TH POSITION Fire Rating Ø = 0 Hour
1 = 1 Hour
2 = 2 Hour
3 = 3 Hour
5 = ½ Hour
5TH POSITION
(AND BEYOND)
Modifiers A = Partial height partition (Layers 14 terminate at/below hung ceiling)
B = Partial height partition (Layer 1 extends above ceiling; others 6" above ceiling)
C = Partial height partition (Layer 1 to structure; others 6" above ceiling)
D = Full height to underside of structural deck/sheathing
F = Full height to underside of structural floor/roof assembly
K = Knee wall partition
R = Furred-out wall
