Design Standards for Stairs, Railings, and Restroom Accessories
All stairs, guardrails, handrails, and restroom accessories shall be designed by a registered structural engineer according to the following criteria:

Handrails and Guardrails

Withstand 50 PLF horizontal load at right angles or 200 lb concentrated load in any direction |
| Intermediate Rails, Panel Fillers, Connections |
Withstand 50 PSF horizontal load over the entire tributary area, including openings and spaces |
